Digestive Health

Our digestive system is meant to bring in and assimilate nourishment so we can flourish not be the cause of digestive issues that rule our life.

For some of us one of our most important bodily systems our gastrointestinal tract, can feel like the source of our misery. Our work, social life and daily functioning seem to be under the control by our gas and bloating, diarrhea or constipation. We might have to stay at home canceling important life events or vacations because we never know when we will have to rush urgently to the bathroom to avoid an accident. We realize it’s safer to deal with our digestive problems in the privacy of our own home rather than risk embarrassment. Perhaps we’ve been kept up at night with the burning of acid reflux or our throat is constantly hoarse.

We’ve been to a gastroenterologist (probably a few) and perhaps we were diagnosed with IBS, Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis or abdominal pain, unspecified. The doctors put us on a variety of medications to manage our gut symptoms, which either worked for a short while or not at all. Sometimes they threw up their hands saying they had know idea why our GI system was upset. Feeling frustrated we then experimented with every diet under the sun and either were unable to identify any food triggers or our diet has dwindled down to only a handful of foods you can safely eat.

Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Ivy, sees healing the gut in a different way. Her approach addresses the underlying reason for our gas and bloating, pain, and diarrhea. Often what we eat is a factor but addressing food alone will often not be enough to recover from gastrointestinal problems. Restoring GI integrity, tonifying and replenishing specific enzymes, managing stress, achieving adequate sleep and bringing into balance the bacteria residing in our gut are also crucial. Dr Ivy is passionate about supporting a healthy microbiome and believes it is the basis of health. Our microbiome is our own unique ecosystem of bacteria which is constant flux based on our lifestyle, diet and environment. Dr Ivy has done extensive research on probiotics and fermented foods to ensure your gut has the healthy balance of beneficial bacteria for digestion and wellbeing.

Is Naturopathic Telemedicine effective for helping my digestion?

Absolutely! Even before the pandemic Dr Ivy has offered virtual appointments to patients for various reasons including international and out-of-state patients, patients with small children, patients with mobility or transportation issues and patients preferring the convenience of having their appointments from their home or office.  These patients have been able to achieve the same results as Dr Ivy’s in-office patients as Dr Ivy uses:

  • A HIPAA compliant electronic medical records system called CHARM

    • Patients can upload past diagnostic and blood work as well as recommend additional testing including the DUTCH test for review.

    • Uses a private and secure version of Zoom.

  • An online Dispensary for patients to easily order physician grade herbs and nutrients that are quickly delivered to the patient.
