Naturopathic Wellness Wednesdays: Motherhood at 40

For this episode of Wellness Wednesday, I interviewed Suziette Ukey-Agazie who is the founder of Momat4ty, an advocacy group for older moms (over 35) based in Nigeria. We discuss the rise of older moms in Nigeria and the issues these women face including the stigma of being an older mother, plus female health disparities in Nigeria.

Suziette is a communication specialist and is well known in the copy world in Nigeria. She had her second child at the age of 39 (her first at the age of 17). And for Suziette, it was an amazing experience but at the same time, a revealing one. She found out the hard way that she was not as strong or energized as she was when she was young. She determined that women need to be extra prepared for a baby when over the age of 35.

While having her second, she found out that not much was being done for older moms in Nigeria or what is termed a ""high-risk pregnancy."" There were little or no local resources to run to, and the hospitals were little help. This is why she started the Momat4ty initiative, a community of older moms in Nigeria. It is her hope that women will find the resources useful to achieve a healthy life and deliver a healthy baby.
